If you wear an A cup, the style of bra matters as much as the size. A push-up, a padded bra and a bralette each do a different job. Here is what each one does on a small bust, who it suits, and which bra from our small-bust bra guide to try.
At a glance
| Style | Shape on an A cup | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Push-up | Most lift and cleavage | Fitted tops, plunge necklines, nights out |
| Padded (lightly lined) | Smooth, rounded, natural | Everyday wear, T-shirts, workwear |
| Bralette | Soft and flatter, little lift | Comfort, lounging, layering under open tops |
Push-up bras for A cups
Push-ups use graduated padding that is thickest at the base and sides of the cup, so it lifts tissue up and towards the centre. On a small bust this is the quickest way to get visible cleavage. Choose a plunge cut for low necklines, and check that the top edge lies flat. If it stands away from you, try one cup size down.

Padded (lightly lined) bras
Lightly padded or moulded cups give a smooth, rounded shape without much extra volume. That makes them the most versatile everyday option. Moulded foam also holds its shape, so a small bust does not leave wrinkles or gaps under thin fabrics.

Bralettes
A small bust needs less support, so bralettes are comfortable for all-day wear, working from home and lounging. They give little lift and can look flatter under fitted tops. Many are sold as S/M/L rather than band and cup, so check the measurements. If you want shape as well as comfort, pick one with removable pads. None of the bras in our small-bust guide is a bralette, so for now we have not linked a specific pick here.
Which should you choose?
- Want cleavage or a lifted look? Push-up.
- Want one bra for most outfits? Lightly padded T-shirt bra.
- Want comfort above all? Bralette.
- Halter or low-back outfit? A multiway with removable straps. See the Wonderbra Multiway in the small-bust guide.
Whichever style you choose, get the band right first. Use sister sizes (34A → 32B) if the cup gapes, and see our small-bust fit guide or lingerie fit 101.
